National Bike Summit - Take Action!

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Today is a National Day of Action in support of our delegates to the National Bike Summit. The St. Louis Regional Bicycle Federation joins the Missouri Bicycle & Pedestrian Federation, Pednet, Jefferson Co. Health Department, the League of Illinois Bicyclists, and Active Transportation Alliance to visit legislators representing the St. Louis region, and all of Missouri and Illinois. We are talking with senators and representatives and their staff to ask for their support of an agenda that would expand transportation choices for our citizens. We believe that everyone should have the freedom to move around in the world on foot or by bicycle safely and without a lot of hassle.

New Corporation Bylaws

The growth and evolution of our organization since the Fall of 2004 has necessitated revisions of our Bylaws.  Our overall intent was to change the text to better define who we are and what we do.  You can follow this link to a copy of the proposed Bylaws, and we encourage you to read through this draft to check your understanding and acceptance of the details.  The following are highlights of the "improvements" made to this guiding document:

  • We are a regional organization that represents the citizens of eight (8) counties in two (2) different states.  Now we have better defined what that region is.
  • Your dues are payable every year on same date of the same month you joined.  If you submit your dues prior to that date, you will be credited with a full year until the following membership anniversary.
  • The election of the Board of Directors is a sequential process that begins with nominations in October.  The new wording steps you through each part of the process ending with the installation of new officers and directors and approval of the budget for the coming year.
  • The duties of the officers and the functions of the committees have been expanded and delineated. For instance, our paid staff manages the finances of the operation while the treasurer oversees the financial practices, policy adherence, and budget reporting.

You, the membership, will be asked to adopt the revised Bylaws at the general membership meeting on Thursday, March 25, 2010 held at Shaw School.  If you have questions, they will be addressed at that time.
